Centennial

Mission: Preserve a Historic Farmhouse, Expand Family Living Space.

A thoughtful expansion and restoration of a 100+ year-old farmhouse, "Centennial" demonstrates how timeless architecture can evolve to meet the needs of modern family living while preserving the character that makes an older home special. Designed in collaboration with Johnson Architecture, this project carefully blends new construction with the existing structure, creating spaces that feel authentic to the home's original design while dramatically improving functionality and flow.

The project centered on a substantial kitchen and living area addition, transforming the heart of the home into a warm, light-filled gathering space. The renovation added approximately 717 square feet of new conditioned living space across two levels, including 467 square feet on the main level and 250 square feet on the upper level, expanding the home's total heated and cooled area to approximately 3,047 square feet. The project also introduced a new 175-square-foot covered porch, increasing the home's outdoor living areas and strengthening the connection between indoors and out.

Inside, the custom kitchen serves as the focal point of the addition, featuring handcrafted cabinetry, a large furniture-style island, premium finishes, and carefully curated brass fixtures and hardware. Expansive windows, custom millwork, and thoughtful architectural detailing allow natural light to flood the space while maintaining the farmhouse’s historic character. The new living areas were designed to integrate seamlessly with the existing home, creating an open and inviting environment for gathering, entertaining, and everyday life.

From the exterior, the addition was carefully designed to respect the original farmhouse through complementary rooflines, proportions, materials, and detailing. New dormers, porch elements, and architectural features were crafted to feel as though they had always been part of the home, preserving its historic charm while providing the space and amenities today's families desire.

We are thrilled to have partnered with Johnson Architecture to bring this vision to life and create a home that honors its rich history while providing room for this family to gather, grow, and create memories for generations to come.
